AUBURN, Mass. - Amir Adelinia, a member of Boy Scouts Troop 121 in Auburn, recently fulfilled his Eagle Scout project to rebuild the dugout at Lemansky Park baseball field.
In August, the dugout across the street from the Auburn Police Station was destroyed by Tropical Storm Irene's powerful wind gusts.
"We need to do something before next spring," Adelinia told the Board of Selectmen in October.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America program. A Scout who attains the Eagle Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges, demonstrate Scout Spirit and complete an extensive service project.
In October, Adelinia told Board of Selectmen he hoped to finish the project before the middle of winter.
He succeeded in meeting his goal with support and approval from his Troop Leader, the Board of Selectmen, Cemetery/Parks/Recreation Superintendent Wayne Bloomquist, Scout Advancement Chair and the Mohegan Council.
According to town officials, "this was a major undertaking that involved extensive planning, coordination, fundraising and permitting in addition to the actual design and construction of the dugout."
"The Town of Auburn is grateful to Amir and congratulates him on this tremendous project."
