AUBURN, Mass. - The Worcester Inter-tribal Indian Council visited Auburn Cub Scout Pack 53 at Faith Baptist Church last month to speak to the boys about traditional customs.
They provided various demonstrations of Indian culture though dress, song, stories and drumming and explained some of the ways cub scouting ideas tie into those traditions and beliefs. The four men from the Worcester Inter-tribal Indian Council included John Gentlehawk, Mark Elksbear, Stoneholder, and Helping Spirit who provided spiritual and /moral support.
"This was a very special evening for the scouts and the parents alike," Christine Ganong said.
The council extended an invitation for the boys and their families to visit Treasure Valley June 4 and 5 for the WIIC Annual Inter-tribal Powwow.
"We are expecting that many of our Pack 53 families will join them for this wonderful opportunity to celebrate and experience Native American Customs," Ganong said.
Prior to the opening of the Pack Meeting, cub scout Logan Alexander (wolf den) had the opportunity to toss a pie at Cub Master Scott Taylor. Logan was the Pack 53 top seller of popcorn this year with a total in sales over $600.
According to Gagnon, tossing a pie at the Cub Master is always a favorite incentive for the boys when selling popcorn each Fall.
