AUBURN, Mass. - An Auburn man was arrested on drug charges in Worcester Saturday night after police allegedly discovered crack cocaine and a machete near two schools.

Oscar Armas, 28, of 2 Linda Ave., Auburn, was charged with a Stop Sign Violation, Failure to Stop for Police, Possession of Class B Substance with the Intent to Distribute (second and subsequent offense) and two School Zone Violations involving Drug Offenses. He was also charged with Improperly Storing a Firearm, 2 counts of Possession of Ammunition and a Firearm without and FID Card, Carrying a Firearm without a License and Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License.

Armas was arrested Saturday night after members of the Worcester Police Department's Anti-Violence Unit, patrolling in the area of Dorchester Street and Rice Lane, observed a gray Chevrolet allegedly fail to stop at a stop sign. Officers followed the car until it came to a stop in front of 26 Cutler St. and apprehended the driver, identified as Armas.

Inside the car, officers allegedly found a machete between the front seat and console, as well as a glassine baggie containing 29 individually wrapped pieces of crack cocaine, about 11.2 grams.

The location of the stop occurred within 1,000 ft of Grafton Street School and Union Hill School.

On Sunday, members of the Worcester Police Gang Unit executed a search warrant at 16 Laurel St., apartment 1105. The target of the search warrant was Armas. Recovered in the search were numerous rounds of ammunition and drug paraphernalia. The search also produced information that Armas allegedly had additional property located at a Catherine Street apartment. Officers went to that address and allegedly discovered a .357 handgun and additional ammunition.

Armas was arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on Monday.
