WORCESTER, Mass. - Robert G. Perron died as a result of declining health on Monday, Feb. 20 at the age of 90, surrounded by his family at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester.

He was born on May 25, 1921, the son of George and Irene (Sweet) Perron and lived in Worcester all of his life. He graduated from Classical High School in 1939 and worked at Norton Company for 40 years, rising from a machinist to foreman and retiring as an industrial engineer in 1981. Bob was selected and encouraged to attend classes at the WPI School of Industrial Management where he earned a certificate leading to an increased role and level of responsibility at Norton Company.

He left Norton to serve in France during World War II and continued to serve as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve for 20 years retiring as a master sergeant. He was a skillful craftsman in woodworking, plumbing and auto mechanics and enjoyed reading, especially, science and related books. He was a true member of the silent "Greatest Generation" never asking for much and doing what he needed to and what was expected. He enjoyed taking his family traveling to Europe, Canada and through numerous states in the US. Early on after starting his family, he developed an interest in photography.


He was married to Eliane M. (Blain) Perron, whom he met at a USO function while stationed in France during World War II. They were married in 1946 in France and had three sons. Besides Eliane, he leaves Michel and his wife Pamela of Worcester, Philip and his companion Deborah Cochran of Worcester, and Daniel and his wife Eileen of Auburn. He also leaves his grandchildren, Michael and his wife Talya of Shrewsbury, Matthew of Worcester and Danielle, John, Brian and Mary Perron of Auburn. He was predeceased by his parents and older sister Dorothy Stranieri and a younger brother George. He also leaves numerous nephews and nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces.


The family wishes to thank Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Holy Trinity Hospice for the wonderful and loving care they provided during his time with them. The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 24 from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave. Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. at North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive, Auburn. Burial will be private. Calling hours are from 5  to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 at the funeral home.
